Florida Drivers Injured or Killed after Rear-ending Semi Trucks A week ago, in Brevard County, a woman and her passenger were seriously injured when they slammed into a parked semi on Interstate 95 at 2:10 a.m. Jenilee Maxwell was speeding, when her car suddenly veered onto the rumble strip. She overcorrected to the right and, consequently, lost control of her vehicle.
The semi truck was parked alongside the highway. When Maxwell slammed into the trailer, she was taken to Palm Bay Hospital and Brandon McComas, her passenger, had to be rushed to the Holmes Regional Medical Center. Their conditions have not yet been released to the public, but the extent of their injuries is reportedly severe.
This story is one of many in a string of national cases about parked or slowed semi trucks that cause injuries. In Alabama, four men were recently injured as they failed to break in time for a slowed tractor trailer. The semi was making a left turn onto the Interstate, when they slammed into the back of it. Drivers of semis and other big rigs have to practice extreme caution when they drive. Because they are exponentially larger than any other vehicles on the road, they have to ensure that they follow specific safety practices and give appropriate signals to other drivers.
