Florida Truck Driver Failed to Make Controlled Stop Last week, a driver overturned his semi in the median of Interstate-75. The man, Craig Brown, was carrying a load of crushed corn and wheat grain. He failed to slow down enough to make a turn, so he instead veered into the grassy median to avoid hitting other vehicles.
Brown is now in Tampa General Hospital with serious injuries. He had to be pulled from the cab of the truck by rescue crews, before he was flown to the emergency care center.
Though it was a courageous move to tip his truck over into the median, rather than strike other motorists, Brown should have been exercising more care when he decided to turn. Semi trucks are extremely serious vehicles that can cause major damage and even death if they are not operated with care.
The highway remained open, but traffic was slow, as cleaning crews had to arrive to clean up the spilt load on the scene. Drivers generally have to undergo a rigorous training program and examination to get their commercial drivers' license (CDL). Most mistakes are simply that, mistakes. However, when an error ends in wrongful death or injury, the driver of the truck can be held responsible.
He or she can be taken to court and sued for any medical expenses, as well as any suffering that the victim or his or her family may have to endure.
