Man Killed in Impact with Semi Truck Recently, Randal Touchton of Pace, Florida was killed when his pickup truck collided with a semi on the Chumukla Highway. The driver of the big rig, William Fillingim, was heading north on the highway, when he drifted into the southbound lane and struck two oncoming vehicles. The first driver, Ernest Evans, was able to pull to the side of the road, and had no injuries. However, the second driver, Touchton was not so lucky. His vehicle slammed into the tuck, head-on.
Touchton was airlifted to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, but he was pronounced dead within minutes. He had not been wearing his seatbelt during the collision, and Fillingim had slammed into him one too many times. The semi slid off into the woods after the impact, and the driver suffered only minor injuries.
Troopers investigated the scene and found that alcohol was not a factor in the accident. They speculated that the accident was caused by the weariness of the driver, because it took place just before 7 a.m.
Big rig drivers often have to force themselves to drive for extended periods of time, and can grow fatigued as they sit behind the wheel. When this happens, the truck, which weighs thousands of pounds, becomes a lethal threat to any other drivers on the road.
If you or someone you love has been injured in a car accident, involving a semi truck driver, who fell asleep behind the wheel, you deserve justice. Call the truck accident lawyers at Porter and Korvick to help you get money to cover your medical expenses, lost wages, and future damages as well.
