Mother Sues Scientologists over Son's Suicide A Florida woman is pressing charges against the Church of Scientology, because she blames it for the untimely death of her 20-year-old son. The boy shot himself in 2007 when his Scientologist father took away his antidepressant medications and forced him into a church-oriented drug treatment program. The boy was not, himself, a follower of Scientology.
The father has claimed that he took the medications away, because church officials had told him to. However, these officials have denied responsibility in his death because the incident did not take place on church property.
The boy suffered from depression, anxiety and was beginning to show the early signs of schizophrenia. His psychiatrist had prescribed the antidepressant medications after exhibiting paranoid behaviors. On the day that he took his life, the boy left two notes saying that people had failed him. Many believe that the Church of Scientology should be at fault. It is not widely recognized or respected as a form of religion, and, in fact, many people liken it more to a cult organization. Also, any party that tells a paranoid, schizophrenic to go off of his medications, against the advice of a medical doctor, is to some degree, responsible for his death. The mother plans to take this argument to court and win a case against the church that she blames for her son's death.
If someone you loved has died a wrongful death because he or she was advised to go off of prescribed medications, do not hesitate to call the personal injury law offices of Porter and Korvick for professional legal counseling today.
