Semi Truck Struck Pedestrian, Continued to Drive Earlier this month, Theodore Willis was walking in the roadway on Interstate 95 in St. Augustine, Florida. It was approximately 3 a.m. when he fell and a driver stopped to help him. However, before the driver could reach Willis, a semi tuck flew down the road and struck him. The unknown truck continued to drive off into the night, and Willis had to be airlifted to the hospital in Jacksonville, where he remained in critical condition.
Authorities are still trying to determine if alcohol was a factor in the incident. If Willis was indeed drinking, and even if he was not, it is likely that the driver of the truck would not be charged with any criminal offense. However, because he failed to stop after he struck Willis, he can be charged with "hit and run."
Authorities are still trying to locate the mystery truck driver, but they assume that if they do, the victim's family will want to press charges for the careless and callous behavior. Hit and run is a major offense that can result in fines or even jail time for the defendant.
