Victims of Hit and Run Suing Sheriff On February 20, Wakulla County Sheriff, David Harvey, was accused of a hit and run violation. He struck an SUV, carrying a woman and her daughter on his way home from golf, dinner and drinks with a friend. Though his lawyers claim that he had not been drinking that evening, several witnesses, including his friend, said that he had consumed at least two alcoholic beverages.
The victims of the crash are now suing Harvey for four separate claims. Karla Wright, 39, and her 13-year-old daughter are each filing for physical injuries. Wright says that she suffers from numbness in her right arm and pain in her lower back and upper neck. Her daughter is also receiving medical treatment. They are also filing a claim for emotional distress caused by the crash.
Wright's husband, Tony, is also filing a suit that he lost the support of his wife after the crash, financial and otherwise. The maximum that any person can receive is $100,000, but the family's lawyer is working to make sure that they get every penny of that.
Harvey has received notice that he will be facing a potential lawsuit, and it is yet unknown whether or not he will attempt to settle outside of the courtroom.
